The Six of Us was founded by a core group of six artists who met whilst studying at University for a degree in Fine Art. None of the group have followed a conventional route into art but have brought experience and insight from their careers in nursing, teaching, genetics, television and administration. The group has exhibited together since 2006 and the philosophy remains... to produce work which reflects individual skills and interest while at the same time, wherever possible, having a degree of cohesion of subject.
Our latest exhibition INSPIRED BY VERSE is a chance for this group of female artists to produce some fascinating responses to their own chosen piece of poetry. Heather's passion for genetics is reflected in her choice of Thomas Hardy's 'Heredity'. Karole has chosen Emily Dickinson's 'Almost' in which she endeavours to capture a transient moment, Allison focuses her attention on the smallest of chambers inspired by 'A Green Crab's Shell' by Mark Doty, Lorna's fascination with decay and the changes it brings has picked 'Rubaiyat' by Omar Khayyam and Julia has chosen 'Time' by Klil Gibran to look at the passing of time and its effect on us and the landscape.
