My art practice has evolved in response to my dual interests in science and art. On the science side, as a geneticist, I am fascinated by laboratory process / cell manipulation / hybrid technology. On the art side I am drawn to artwork which uses light and colour in a mix of media including drawing and painting as well as contemporary video and photographic print. My own practice uses traditional and digital photography as well as experimental light and lens processes to create images. Some of the images reference radiology and photomicroscopy.
Since graduating in 2006 I have exhibited regularly including work accepted for exhibition in the Shrewsbury Open (2006), Stroud Open (2008) and the University of Hertfordshire Open (2006, 2007, 2008).
My work for the Owl and the Pussycat, reflects Lear’s poetic nonsense with an illustrated whimsical verse reflecting on the Owl’s and Pussycat’s need for a family and the contemporary assisted conception route they might take.
I have also made work which responds to the words of the poem such as ‘pea’, ‘pea-green’ and ‘slices of quince’.
